One Day Workshop- the latest procedures on the Export Trade

The National Chamber of Commerce will conduct a One day Workshop on Export Procedures & Documentation on Saturday 15 March 2014 from 8.30 am to 4.30 p.m at the chamber auditorium No 450 D. R Wijewardene Mw, Colombo – 10

The workshop is designed for those who are involved in exporting, and sourcing from overseas. It provides an overview of the principles involved in successful exporting, tips on how to avoid problems and ensure smooth running of contracts, profitably.

Subjects that would be touched on are :

Introduction to export, planning to export – strategic decisions, necessary export administration steps, incoterms,how to calculate an export price and make a profit, internal order processing and dispatch preparation,

How duty and other levies are calculated and a study of the important clearance documents and costing.

• Temporary import schemes in operation -including duty rebate scheme, temporary import for export processing schemes - bonds procedures and warehousing.
• Payment terms with regard to imports -- a review of the impact of each type (inc L/C's and Document Collections) on import payments.
• Incoterms 2000
• Regulations pertaining to imports & issuance of licenses for imports – trade policy and role of the Import/Export Controller
• Typical import steps and import order administration
• Tariff and commodity codes
• Modes of transport

Participants will have a an understanding of the necessary skills to ensure due diligence, seek quotations and place orders efficiently, ensure correct documentation for customs clearance into Sri Lanka including VAT compliance and complete costing to ensure profitable trading.

It will be beneficial for those involved in sourcing goods from overseas, including sales, purchasing, production and accounts staff. It also provides a good overview necessary for senior managers who have to delegate responsibility.

The Resource person will be Mr. J A D A Perera, Deputy Director of Customs, Sri Lanka Customs who has over 30 years of experience at Sri Lanka Customs in various department.

A Seminar/Forum on “Shipping Procedures, issues and the Way Forward “ organized by the National Chamber of Commerce was held at the chamber auditorium recently.. The keynote speaker was, Dr Priyath Wickrama Chairman of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority. The other speaker was Director General Customs Mr Jagath P Wijeweera . The seminar was well attended and had a full house.

National Chamber CEO Forum “Changing Skyline of Colombo”

National Chamber will conduct a CEO Forum on the theme “Changing Skyline of Colombo -   Opportunities for the Private Sector” on Thursday 7 August 2014 at 4.30 p.m to 6.30 p.m  at the National Chamber Auditorium, 450 D R Wijewardene Mw, Colombo 10. The special Guest will be Mr. Nimal Perera, Chairman, Urban Development Authority and assisted by Mr Nihal Fernando, Deputy Director General (Projects) & the Technical Team of Urban Development Authority.

1st Awareness Workshop for the National Business Excellence Awards 2014(NBEA)

The first Awareness Workshop for the   National Business Excellence Awards 2014 was  conducted on 25 July, at the National Chamber Auditorium with great success, to a large gathering of applicants  who has applied for the oncoming NBEA 2014. NBEA one of the most prestigious Awards Scheme and  highly recognized for its benchmark professionalism is conducted every year by  the National Chamber of Commerce for  companies that excels  in exemplary  business practices.  Participants at the awareness workshop were from various sectors such as agriculture, construction, gem & jewellery ,banking, ICT, hospitality & tourism, export sector etc.

 

The workshop was conducted by senior experts in this field, to assist the applicants how to fill in the applications in the correct manner so that they can score the highest marks at the competition. During the session the participants were able to ask questions and clarify many grey areas with regard to the filling of the applications. As at now there is a heavy demand for applications and already many applications have been issued out. Closing date for the applications- 10 October 2014.
